My mentor is ‘on my wavelength’

PRIME Cymru’s Project Manager, Beverley Kennett, matches clients with mentors that have relevant experience and similar personalities.

Dan Jones, age 54 from Cardiff, is receiving ongoing business mentoring from PRIME Cymru Volunteer Mentor, Phil Ashill.

Dan approached PRIME Cymru after recognising significant technological and economic shifts in his long-standing industry, prompting him to reassess his career path and seek new opportunities.

Talking to Phil, who has had a successful career as a management consultant, ICT systems analyst and project manager, helped Dan to decide his next direction.

Phil said: “I am really enjoying working with Dan. When I first met him in the summer of 2024, it was clear that he was keen to provide a more ambitious and strategic range of services to his already impressive portfolio of clients.

“Yet, there was a journey to be undertaken, in terms of his own business confidence and the shape of the business itself. We therefore began with a coaching process to identify his options and narrow down what he really wanted to do with his formidable experience and skillset.”

Despite his impressive background, Dan needed help to realise his full potential.

Dan said: “I met in person with Phil. We got on really well, with natural conversation and he was on my wavelength.

“He gave me confidence, which is useful when you’re on your own. Phil has done a lot in his career so he has that experience, and you can trust his confidence in you.”

Phil’s background in technology made him the perfect fit to mentor Dan, whose expertise is in graphic and web design.

“We thought about what I had really enjoyed in my career. It was when I had more involvement with start-ups and small businesses, using my experience and giving ideas.”
